Being Secure in Suffering
Why is feeling secure so important when we are suffering?
We have, we are, and we will suffer; therefore, we need secure attachments to continue hoping in God and loving our neighbors.
Only when our greatest love is God, a love that we cannot lose even in death, can we face all things with peace. Grief was not to be eliminated but seasoned and buoyed up with love and hope; this seasons our sorrow (Keller, 2013).
Being Safe in Suffering
The more he tried to protect her from all the events that happened the other night, the angrier she became. He believed that by removing some of the details of where he went with his friends, he would keep them from fighting the same fight they’ve had for the last year. She slowly leaned over on the couch they were sitting on; she turned her face to the bottom of the coffee table they were in front of. There was a long silence, fragile lungs began to fill up with quick breaths and broken exhales, it was like her heart was seeking to escape her body, hoping to run for any sense of safety.
Being Soothed in Suffering
Home. Even when it’s the home we didn’t grow up in, it’s a place where people understand and experience love, acceptance, being known, and feeling understood.
Though the feeling of “home” can live in a house, we all know that “home” is found in the people we love and who love us.
Being Seen in Suffering
There is no promise that we won’t suffer, but maybe we can suffering differently? Is it possible to not just endure suffering? Not just to say that we “got through” life, but to say that we are still winning and will continue to win in life in the midst of ongoing pain?
A World that breaks its people.
I remember the moment a little too vividly; it’s been a few years now. She was sitting across on the couch to my left, feet up in her slippers, 5 feet away, but it felt more like we were a thousand miles apart.
In the beginning, there was shame…?
Before things were corrupted, there they were, husband and wife, in each other’s presence and the presence of God. This verse is simple, brief, and many times I’ve kept reading, not knowing what I was missing…
